Serena Romano studied History of Art at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. She worked as Art Historian at the Italian Ministry of Culture, in Venice and Rome, then, in 1996 she became Professor of Medieval History at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland; she is Emerita since 2017. Her research fields include Painting and Visual Culture in Rome during the Middle Ages; Lombard visual culture under the Visconti and the Sforza; Giotto and Trecento painting.
